Explanations (and a few more phrases without audio)
Essen is the infinitive form of the German verb 'to eat' and used in the sentence 'Kann man hier essen' (Can we eat here?). This illustrates the German the sentence order when using two verbs together with the infinitive
at the end of the sentence.
| I eat | ich esse |
| He,she,it eats | er,sie,es isst |
| We, you they eat | wir,Sie,sie essen |
This can be compared with 'Wo essen wir heute?' (Where are we eating today?).
Kann is the third person singular of the verb
können 'can or be able to'.
| I can | ich kann |
| He,she,it can | er,sie,es kann |
| We, you they can | wir,Sie,sie können |
