Macedonian

Macedonian has around 2 million speakers and is the official language of Macedonia. It is an official language in parts of Romania, Albania and Serbia and there are around 200,000 speakers in Greece.

Macedonian is written using an adaptation of the cyrillic script. Surface languages also includes a version of the phrases transliterated using the roman alphabet.

Macedonian grammar has lost the common Slavic case system. Macedonian nouns belong to one of three genders (masculine, feminine and neuter) and are inflected for number (singular and plural), and marginally for case. The gender opposition is not distinctively marked in the plural.

As Macedonian has lost its case system, prepositions are very important for creation and expression of various grammatical categories. This can be seen in by reference to some of the phrases on Surface languages. The most important Macedonian preposition is 'na' ('of', 'on', 'to').

The above was based on the Wiki entry on the Macedonian language.
